Is Cremation replacing the big Irish funeral?

The well avowed atheist Maeve Binchy chose cremation sensibly instead of the usual costly involving expensive (and never to be seen again) boxes competing with crocodile tear distributors and dreary chatter over long deceased desert itinerants.

I cannot help but feel let down that she still bought into, at least a part of this thankfully evaporating fiasco.

The Catholic church had for most of its history, viewed cremation as the ultimate insult, the burning of the "temple of the holy spirit".
